One difference is the amount of memory in the discounted notebook; it comes with 4GB of shared single channel DDR3 RAM. Grab this deal now for $650, about $180 off the retail price.
As far as performance goes, we noticed that this model of the Inspiron 15R outperformed the last generation significantly in most areas; we said that the increase was "impressive." In terms of overall system performance, the system was able to do better than every single one of the most similar budget or mid-range systems in the market that we compared it to.
Also in our review of the Inspiron 15R N5110, we said the Chiclet-style keyboard was comfortable to type with and that the key spacing is wide enough to help prevent typos. We also thought the touchpad was built well and lag shouldn't be a problem; it is a large Synaptics model with separate right and left-click buttons.
The glossy 15.6-inch display has a resolution of 1366x768. We said we'd rate the display as a "little above average" for a budget notebook. On the subject of price, I was personally surprised that the Dell included two SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports when some much more expensive notebooks available today only have one or none. It also has two USB 2.0 ports, a lock slot, HDMI, VGA-out, and a SDHC-card reader.
